Trump and Jesus in a light-filtered cloud scene in heaven.

Trump’s First Days Reveal a Similarity to Jesus

After watching way too many hours of President Donald Trump speaking, signing executive orders, making appearances, and speaking some more, I was struck with a revelation. It occurred to me that Trump and Jesus share some similar qualities. More specifically I suppose, President Trump is exhibiting certain characteristics that we find in the Bible that were often used to describe Jesus Christ.

While it is the first characteristic below that started me on this tangent, let me be very clear about one thing; we are talking about the human characteristics exhibited by both the man Donald Trump, and the triune God come to earth as both man and God, Jesus Christ. Only Jesus can forgive sin, and only Jesus is Lord.

Trump and Jesus – Both Speaking with Authority

What I love about this similarity between Trump and Jesus is that while I always understood the biblical concept of Jesus speaking with authority, it was more of a thought I took in faith. I didn’t really have an experience or point of reference I could point too where I could say, “Ah…I understand how those people felt.” We read in Matthew 7:28-29 the following:

28 And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, 29 for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.

Watching President Trump speak, especially around other government officials, it’s so clear and obvious that he seems to know more than anyone else, and that he truly speaks with authority. Seeing this made me think of the above verse, and added a nice bit of clarity to my knowledge of the Word of God. In this way, I see a similarity between Trump and Jesus.

Displeasure with Hypocrisy

Jesus had no tolerance for hypocrisy. In this, Trump and Jesus are alike. Jesus regularly blasted the religious elite in His day. We can look again at the book of Matthew as an example, in chapter 23, versus 27 & 28.

27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness. 28 So you also outwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

Similarly, Donald Trump (and the entire nation for that matter), have endured the hypocrisy of the Democrats for too long. Their DEI mandate for example, rather than being “inclusionary” as the acronym would claim, simply promoted the exclusion of far more qualified individuals. This allowed less capable candidates into important positions in our government, and America has paid the price.

Transgender general “Rachel” Levine accelerated the decline of the United States military. Had Mr. Levine actually cared about our country’s true well being and less about promoting his abhorrent behavior, he would have declined the post. As a puppet to the left however, he was celebrated. Their hypocrisy of inclusion cost American lives and has led to that decline.

Either Loved or Hated

While we could point out verses in the Bible where Jesus was loved or hated, we really only need the lens of time. Trump and Jesus are both either loved or hated, with not a lot of middle ground in between. For those that believe in the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ…he is loved. For the rest of the world, Christ is hated.

While we can certainly say that much of the world is lukewarm, much of the world also hates Jesus. If we take this biblical account spoken by Christ himself, it’s quite black and white. Looking again at Matthew, this time at chapter 12, verse 30.

Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.

We can take the words “against me” has hate. Perhaps not the volatile behavior we associate with hate (though there are those too) but hate nonetheless. We see the same thing with Trump. Most people love him or hate him, with not much middle ground.

I could add another bullet point that Trump and Jesus share, but I will simply comment here, and that is they are both often misunderstood, which can lead to hate. The less you know about either man, the more jaded your opinion. The level of your knowledge about Trump and Jesus directly affects your love/hate barometer.

Trump and Jesus – Both Saviors

Now I know what you are saying….hold on Boomer! Don’t worry, I’m not in any way saying that Trump is even in the same league as our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What I am saying however, is that as Christ has proven to be the savior of mankind, President Trump may prove to be the savior of America. God spared Trump and put him in this position for a reason.

It will be interesting to see what that effort looks like in 4-years, and the direction our nation takes during this time. Will the divide between parties and ideologies grow, or will a sense of normalcy return, driving the extreme left down to the basement for years of rebuilding? Have people had enough of the liberal left’s extreme nonsense? Will Trump continue to be as effective 3 or 4 years from now as he has in his first week as the 47th president? Only Trump and Jesus know.
