Romans 1:28-32 Could Have Been Written Today
Throughout the ages, every generation has thought they were living in the last days. I think God designed it this way intentionally so we would always be watchful, always hopeful. Like the waves that precede a hurricane, each generation of turmoil and resistance to God grows in strength. The timelessness of verses like Romans 1:28-32 and others is always astonishing. How predictions written thousands of years ago can be so accurately portrayed today is a testament to the durability of prophetic scripture.
What Is Different Today?
Even though 100 years from now, someone else may pen these very same thoughts, it’s difficult to imagine the human race continuing as it is without God’s inevitable intervention. In times past, there have always been peoples, groups, races, or cultures that embraced licentious behavior; effectively putting shoes on the feet of these versus:
28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.
Today however, it isn’t isolated to small nations or uninformed people groups. It’s in America. Not all of America, thankfully, but a whole lot of folks in America. Worse, and I believe the biggest difference between now and times past, it includes some city, state, and national government representatives that support and even encourage this deviant behavior, “…giving approval to those who practice them“.
From Romans to Roaming
These unruly participants are not content to practice their behavior in the privacy of their own home, instead choosing to protest, parade, push, and proselytize their will in the face of the rest of the nation. Their physical presence is bolstered by the media support they enjoy by left-leaning propaganda networks like CNN, MSNBC, CBS, and others.
These debased “haters of God”, to quote from Romans, roam the streets in protests that start as “peaceful”, but always end up in chaos and looting. As “insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil”, this should not really be a surprise. What is surprising today is the support they get from the lunatic liberal left media and the politicians that support them.
Like Satan, who hopes you will believe his treacherous lies, the unrighteousness evil expects you to believe and accept their radical nonsense. This message in Romans is echoed in 2 Timothy 3 and the advice given at the end of verse 5 should be well heeded – “avoid such people”.
The Trump Effect
Ever since Trump won back the presidency, we have seen the Trump Effect in play. When the progressive left democrats couldn’t combat Trump’s early popularity and success, they went back to the only play they had in their playbook; outright chaos and lunacy. TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) is a real thing. Don’t believe it? Just look at the crazy, radical, non-sensical, dangerous, hateful behavior of the liberal left. Watch their faces. Listen to their words. See their actions. They fully embody Romans 1.
Passing Phase, or Romans Lived Out?
As with all prophetic scripture, time will tell. Just imagine, if you will, when the rapture occurs. Not only are all believers removed from the earth, the Holy Spirit is taken out of the way. There will be nothing to prevent those that remain from fully demonstrating every horrible trait mentioned in this verse of Romans. The sad part is they will believe they have won.
They will think that they have overcome, only to realize someday that they were all played by the father of lies. They will have to answer to God for their sin and abhorrent behavior, while Satan sits back and just laughs at them.
